How We Can Work With You To Improve Your Life...

We can assist you in finding the happiness already inside. Below are some of the specific issues that we all face that can benefit from a helping hand.

PARENTAL ALIENATION COUNSELING:

If you are aware of the term "parental alienation", then you've researched to find the name of the painful experience you've been succumbed to. You have had difficulty trying to get access to...even simple visitations...with your children due to custodial blocking.

Our Parental Alienation Coaching is about helping you understand what you are experiencing, devising emotional coping strategies, and understanding practical plans in order to ensure your legal process is addressing the realities of parental alienation.

THERAPY FOR DIVORCED FATHERS:

Societal stigma makes it difficult for men to ask for help. Fatherhood can be a lonely experience for many, where the instinct is to suppress emotions in the name of "manhood".

For divorced fathers, the emotional toil can be even more difficult. You got married and had children with the expectation that you would spend the next 18+ years having breakfast and dinner with your children every day, helping them with their homework, being a daily part of their lives.

With divorce, that dream is lost. Even the most civil separations of marriage result in no more than 50% time spent with the children by either parent. Sadly in most divorce cases for fathers, the time awarded with their children is much less than 50%.

At Counseling Today, we help fathers transition through and post-divorce by treating divorce for what it is: the loss of a future you thought you would have.

Our sessions are aimed at helping fathers navigate divorce from the perspective of grief counseling. We work with you to not only engage with the emotional aspect, but help build practical coping strategies to manage the loss of the family structure, the anxiety regarding financial issues and socialization difficulties.

EXPAT & "TRAPPED PARENTS" COUNSELING:

As the world has evolved into a more global society, there is an increase in the number of partnerships between spouses of different cultures.

More and more children are raised in bicultural households as dual citizens of both the nation of their mother and fathers. In many cases, the children are even third-culture kids (TCKs), raised in a country outside of either parent.

But when a marriage dissolves between two parents from different cultures, it often results in what is called a "trapped parent": a parent that is living in a foreign country and the only way they can maintain regular relations with their children is to commit to living in the foreign country.

When divorces are not civil, this often results in one parent no longer having the ability to travel abroad with their children to have relationships with their family living abroad.

This can be an extremely lonely experience for the trapped parent where there seems like no other solution but to give up their cultural identity to immerse into the culture of their ex-spouse.

We work with you to develop practical coping strategies beyond the self-exploration of most therapy, but to help you adapt to the new reality of making the sacrifice for your children by calling a new country home.

While the Trapped Parent is one extreme of living a life in a foreign country, the majority of foreigners living in other countries are immigrants.

Leaving your home country to emigrate to another country may result in loneliness and trouble adjusting to a new culture.

Counseling Today helps to provide guidance for foreigners living abroad, to help devise emotional and practical strategies to better your experiences living abroad.

Whether you are a diplomat on a posting abroad, a spouse that moved to the country of your partner, someone who has moved to a foreign country for the purpose of employment, we will work with you to help you manage the challenges you face.

About Counseling Today

Dr. Matthew Peloquin started his career in mental health at the University of Massachusetts, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Communications, with a minor in Sociology.

After a career in healthcare growth as a Fractional CMO, Matt returned to the mental health field, earning his doctorate in psychology and various diplomas in Parental Alienation, including a Master’s in Parental Alienation Studies.

Matt’s work in mental health focuses on supporting an underserved area: the psychology of fatherhood, parental alienation, and the stressors foreign parents face living abroad.

Matt actively engages in the parental alienation community, founding Fathers Guidance, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to supporting fathers affected by parental alienation and breaking down the stigma around men’s psychology and self-care. Matt is also an active member of PASG, the Parental Alienation Study Group, collaborating with others in the field and men's psychology experts to raise awareness and understanding of fatherhood psychology.

Counseling Today provides support for parents dealing with Parental Alienation, fathers managing the transition through divorce and limited daily contact with their children, and 'trapped parents' who must adapt to living outside their home countries to stay connected with their children.

Asking for help is the difficult part. Receiving help shouldn’t be.
